Purple Savage

Can someone please explain atheism to me?
They are so unreasonable. They really want proof before I believe in something. So what if our world is filled with random violence and hatred. The fact that no evidence of God, does not exist. I have a purple pet lizard sitting invisible 3 feet beside me, and I do not need any evidence to believe it. Similarly, the atheist does not need proof to believe in God. After all, everything is written in a book was written thousands of years by the wild-minded people, and only translated a couple of times. That should be good enough for them. Do not you think?
nobody reads your question, but I agree, and thanks for the laughs.

The Savage $4.99 Mysterious and utterly mesmerizing, this graphic-novel-within-a-novel pairs the extraordinary prose of David Almond with the visual genius of Dave McKean. Blue Baker is writing a story – not all that stuff about wizards and fairies and happily ever after – a real story, about blood and guts and adventures, because that’s what life’s really like. At least it is for Blue, since his dad died and Hopper, the town bully, started knocking him and the other kids around. But Blue’s story has a life of its own – weird and wild and magic and dark – and when the savage pays a nighttime visit to Hopper, Blue starts to wonder where he ends and his creation begins. |

Mount Savage $21.38 The town of Mount Savage, Maryland, is a small blue-collar town nestled at the base of Big Savage Mountain in the Allegheny Mountains, between Frostburg and Cumberland. The town began as a small farming settlement in the mid-1800s, but it was not until 1844 that the region was put on the nation’s map with the pressing of the first iron rail in the United States. After this claim to fame, Mount Savage became the fifth largest city in Maryland. Named as the headquarters for the short line railroad and the Cumberland & Pennsylvania Railroad, the area was deemed an industrial center. In addition to the rail businesses, Mount Savage attracted a foundry, two brick refractories, and several local merchants. In this company town, the industries shaped the economy and topography of Mount Savage, building housing for workers and donating land for schools, churches, and other public buildings. The town was a cultural melting pot attracting English businessmen and Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Italian, and German workers. With this diverse mix of cultures, the identity of Mount Savage was molded into a close knit community. Despite the loss of the industries to the region, Mount Savage continues to celebrate its hard-working traditions. The photographs contained in Images of America: Mount Savage offer a fascinating look into the irreplaceable memories of the people and places that have made Mount Savage what it was, is, and will become. |

The Savage Nation $3.95 So writes Michael Savage, radio personality and crusader, against what he sees as the pervasive evils of liberalism. In this raucous and unapologetic manifesto, Savage illustrates how years of liberal brainwashing-from the media, politicians, and left-wing pundits-have changed the direction of America, for the very worst. Each week almost eight million radio listeners across the nation tune in to "The Michael Savage Show." His fearless and passionate assault on liberal thought and politics has many calling him the Paul Revere of our time, addressing everything from illegal immigrants to PETA, from the "Hollywood idiots" to that "international government" that is the United Nations. In his trademark in-your-face style, Savage reinforces patriotism, family, and American values, laying out a plan to once again reclaim our country’s identity. |

Savage (Paperback) $45.26 Savage`s history is deep and diverse. The city was home to a famous racehorse and its owner, the site where Charles Lindbergh`s plane crashed, and a prominent ship-building industry that thrived during World War II. It all started in 1852 when a small trading post was established at the mouth of the Credit River where it empties into the Minnesota River. Soon, the town of Hamilton was established, and its residents made a living farming and trading. In the early 1900s, Marion Willis Savage purchased a pacer named Dan Patch and built the International Stock Food Farm along the river. In 1904, the depot agent suggested Hamilton be renamed Savage after the man who brought notoriety to the town with Dan Patch, a horse that set records and charmed crowds until his death in 1916. Today, the horse that was viewed as a symbol of the past serves as a beacon to residents who continue to celebrate the city`s heritage along with the natural beauty of the community. |

The Savage Girl $3.95 What is the next trend — the next "killer app"? This question is very much on the mind of Ursula Van Urden, a burned-out art student who, after her supermodel sister Ivy’s widely publicized suicide attempt, has found work as a trendspotter for Tomorrow, Ltd., in the volcano-shadowed metropolis of Middle City. Armed with only a sketch pad and a mandate to "find the future," Ursula discovers a homeless girl who hunts her own food and lives on the street. This "savage girl" becomes Ursula’s first trend and the basis for an advertising scheme that goes madly, disastrously awry. An exceptionally written novel that puts an obsession with pop culture under the microscope, "The Savage Girl" is a book that cannot be ignored, and Alex Shakar is a writer brimming with talent. |

Savage Vision $24.8 In a small midwestern farming community, famed author and psychiatrist Tessa Savage has made an idyllic life for herself. Her closely-guarded secret – mental abilities allowing her to see the minds of others – has always seemed like a harmless, if useful, tool in helping others. But when local women begin disappearing, and videos of their torture and subsequent suicides are made public, Tessa finds herself thrown into a battle against a psychopathic evil with talents more potent than her own. |

Savage Sam $16.44 This is a tale about a dog we called Savage Sam. It's partly about me, too, and about Papa and Little Arliss and a girl named Lisbeth Searcy and some others. But it's mainly about Sam, on account of without him, there wouldn't have been much of a tale to tell or anybody left to tell it. |

Little Savage $3.95 With Little Savage, Emily Fragos delivers a magnificent collection in the American tradition of Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop. With clean, strongly wrought lines she builds poems that are elegant and powerful. Marie Ponsot calls the collection "remarkable." What separates Fragos from her contemporaries is her amazing ability to empathize with the characters she creates – the misfits, the artists, the children kept in a fifteenth-century school, the composer going mad. She convincingly becomes a young girl in the Venetian conservatory for the abandoned: "Sofia del violino. Once I saw myself / in a clear puddle of rain / water. My teeth are very crooked, I / know. We are none of us / startled by the other. We are all / the same. To Heaven." These moments ache with honesty, and humility, and make us wish that every sentiment expressed by Fragos could be true. Deceptively simple poems written by an unostentatiously skilled poet, Little Savage is permeated with a reverence for nature, music, myth, and dance – a veritable treasure trove of compassion and grace. |

The Savage Knight $11.62 Sir Dodinal the Savage is more at home in the wild forest than in the tilting yard or the banquet hall. Keenly attuned to the natural world, but burdened with a terrible rage, he turns his back on Camelot to find peace, or a just death. In a quiet village on the Welsh border, Dodinal believes he may have finally found a home, but the village is struck by child-stealing raiders from the hills, and he must take up arms once again in his new friends’ aid. His quest will take him into the belly of darkness, as the terrible secret hidden in the hills comes to light… |

The Settler and the Savage $24.59 Ruyter quietly told the savage that he would then have to take the consequences, and urged, in addition, that it was folly to suppose the Kafirs were in a condition to make war on the white men just then. It was barely a year since they had been totally routed and driven across the Great Fish River with great slaughter. No warrior of common sense would think of renewing hostilities at such a time–their young men slain, their resources exhausted. Hintza had better bide his time. In the meanwhile he could gratify his revenge without much risk to himself or his young braves, by stealing in a quiet systematic way from the white men as their herds and flocks increased. |

Tender Savage $3.95 From "New York Times" bestselling author Iris Johansen comes a tale of danger and desire, as a woman caught up in another country’s revolution finds herself falling in love with a charismatic freedom fighter. Lara Clavel knows that her mission to the war-torn Caribbean island of Saint Pierre is fraught with danger. But she is determined to rescue the imprisoned rebel leader Ricardo Lazaro–if only to prevent her twin brother from rejoining his revolutionary army. What she doesn’t expect is the powerful attraction she feels for the legendary poet-warrior. And the heat is mutual. From the instant they meet inside the confines of his jail cell, Ricardo seems bound and determined to possess Lara. But is love possible with a man whose every waking moment is spent in the crosshairs of some would-be assassin’s rifle? Even after Ricardo is freed, Lara will find her feelings for him put to the ultimate test, as she fights to tame a savage rebel skilled in the arts of combat and seduction. |

Savage Messiah $22.67 One of the most striking fanzines of recent years is Laura Oldfield Ford s Savage Messiah, focussing on the politics, psychology and pop- cultural past of a different London postcode. Ford s prose is scabrous and melancholic, incorporating theoretical shards from Guy Debord and Marc Auge, and mapping the transformations to the capital that the property boom and neoliberalist economics have wrought. Each zine is a drift, a wander through landscape that echoes certain strands of contemporary psychogeography. Ford or a version of her, at least is an occasional character, offering up narcotic memories of a forgotten metropolis. The images, hand-drawn, photographed and messily laid out, suggest both outtakes from a Sophie Calle project and the dust jacket of an early 1980s anarcho-punk compilation record: that is, both poetry and protest. Sukhdev Sandhu, New StatesmanSavage Messiah collects together the entire set of Laura Oldfield Ford s fanzine to date. Part graphic novel, part artwork, the book is both an angry polemic against the marginalization of the city s working class and an exploration of the cracks that open up in urban space. |

The Savage Mind $7.85 "Every word, like a sacred object, has its place. No "precis" is possible. This extraordinary book must be read."–Edmund Carpenter, "New York Times Book Review" "No outline is possible; I can only say that reading this book is a most exciting intellectual exercise in which dialectic, wit, and imagination combine to stimulate and provoke at every page."–Edmund Leach, "Man" "Levi-Strauss’s books are tough: very scholarly, very dense, very rapid in argument. But once you have mastered him, human history can never be the same, nor indeed can one’s view of contemporary society. And his latest book, "The Savage Mind," is his most comprehensive and certainly his most profound. Everyone interested in the history of ideas "must" read it; everyone interested in human institutions "should "read it."–J. H. Plumb, "Saturday Review" "A constantly stimulating, informative and suggestive intellectual challenge."–Geoffrey Gorer, "The Observer," London |

Savage Transformation $15.86 She thought she had a life–until being hunted shows her she’s never really lived. "Savage Australia, " Book 2 Jacqueline Huddart has spent her entire adult life on the run. Not from the law, or even a jealous lover. From herself–and what she is. That strategy works for her until a funeral demands she return to home ground, and her best friend disappears. Finding Delainie means Jackie must confront the truth…and accept the help of a mysterious, sexy-as-sin Texan. Marshall Rourke isn’t the only one flying under the radar. He’s on an off-the-grid quest to track down a rogue ex-partner who hunts paranormal beings for the joy of the kill. Convincing the unexpectedly feisty Jackie to trust him isn’t easy, but there’s no better way to lure the hunter into the open than to dangle as unique a target as Jackie–the last Tasmanian Tiger shifter in existence. Trouble is, Marshall hadn’t counted on Jackie’s brutal right cross. Or the fact that her simmering sexuality calls to his inner wolf on every imaginable level. And that the killer is about to use their desire to add them both to his trophy case… "Warning: This title contains the following: explicit sex out in the bush, wild shifter sex in an abandoned shack, passionate sex in a hotel shower. Plus a Texan hero with a very big secret, an Australian heroine with an even bigger one, a significant amount of violence and as always, Australian sarcasm." |

Social Science and the Ignoble Savage $29 This 1976 book is concerned with the emergence, in the latter half of the eighteenth century, of a new theory of socio-economic development, based on the idea that the key factor in the developmental process was the way in which men made their living. Professor Meek traces the prehistory of the four stages theory, from its emergence with French and Scottish Enlightenment thinkers to its modification by critics and revisionists. He argues the theory was shaped by literature about savage societies, especially American Indian. It is well known that contemporary notions of savagery influenced eighteenth-century social science by generating a critique of society through the idea of the noble savage. It is not so well known, however, that they also stimulated the emergence of a new theory of the development of society through the idea of the ignoble savage. This is Professor Meek’s main theme. |

The Myth of the Noble Savage $29.65 In this important and original study, the myth of the Noble Savage is an altogether different myth from the one defended or debunked by others over the years. That the concept of the Noble Savage was first invented by Rousseau in the mid-eighteenth century in order to glorify the "natural" life is easily refuted. The myth that persists is that there was ever, at any time, widespread belief in the nobility of savages. The fact is, as Ter Ellingson shows, the humanist eighteenth century actually avoided the term because of its association with the feudalist-colonialist mentality that had spawned it 150 years earlier. The Noble Savage reappeared in the mid-nineteenth century, however, when the "myth" was deliberately used to fuel anthropology’s oldest and most successful hoax. Ellingson’s narrative follows the career of anthropologist John Crawfurd, whose political ambition and racist agenda were well served by his construction of what was manifestly a myth of savage nobility. Generations of anthropologists have accepted the existence of the myth as fact, and Ellingson makes clear the extent to which the misdirection implicit in this circumstance can enter into struggles over human rights and racial equality. His examination of the myth’s influence in the late twentieth century, ranging from the World Wide Web to anthropological debates and political confrontations, rounds out this fascinating study. |

The Primitive, the Aesthetic, and the Savage (Hardcover) $178.56 Tony C. Brown examines ?the inescapable yet infinitely troubling figure of the not-quite-nothing? in Enlightenment attempts to think about the aesthetic and the savage. The various texts Brown considers?including the writings of Addison, Rousseau, Kant, and Defoe?turn to exotic figures in order to delimit the aesthetic, and to aesthetics in order to comprehend the savage. In his intriguing exploration Brown discovers that the primitive introduces into the aesthetic and the savage an element that proves necessary yet difficult to conceive. At its most profound, Brown explains, this element engenders a loss of confidence in one`s ability to understand the human`s relation to itself and to the world. That loss of confidence?what Brown refers to as a breach in anthropological security?traces to an inability to maintain a sense of self in the face of the New World. Demonstrating the impact of the primitive on the aesthetic and the savage, he shows how the eighteenth-century writers he focuses on struggle to define the human`s place in the world. As Brown explains, these authors go back again and again to ?exotic? examples from the New World?such as Indian burial mounds and Maori tattooing practice?making them so ubiquitous that they come to underwrite, even produce, philosophy and aesthetics. |
