X PIPE , H PIPE – DUAL EXHAUST………….?

My car has true dual exhaust ( 94 fleetwood with LT1 motor ) and I’m looking to put some noise under the floor ( loud mufflers ) but the more I research the more i become discouraged about the idea. Ultimately I just want to replace the mufflers and take the resonators off but I came across some info saying that a X-pipe or a H-pipe at the least would be needed for whatever reasons in regards to lost torque and exhaust scavenging. My car doesn’t have either one of those pipes on it now so why would changing the mufflers and taking the resonators off cause a need for one or am I reading too deep into the issue?

No, you don’t need it. A crossover, weather it’s shaped like an ‘X’ or an ‘H’, does improve the exhaust flow out of the car, but not to the point that you would ‘feel’ the added power if you installed one. They also do affect the sound of the car.

If you want to replace your mufflers, go ahead, and don’t worry about it, just make sure that you get the exhaust gases out from under the car.
