Rooster Crawler

Quite a few years ago I discovered a secret about fishing. The secret is that fish do not care if it rains. Now we have all the jokes from time to time that the fish live in water and therefore already wet. To me, this joke is heard when the rain starts as I'm standing on a mossy bank, throwing a rooster tail in a stream slow motion. Unlike most fishermen, I have a true story backup of my joke.

It was quite a few years ago, when my Dad, Uncle Fred, my cousin Freddie, and I went fishing some rivers and streams in eastern Oregon. This had been covered, warm during most of the morning. The bite was fair, but there is much to brag about. We want to work a sequence for a bit, then hop on our trucks and lead the way to the next point. The company was, of course, good. There's something about being in the beautiful terrain, a workflow in total peace, casual conversation with a good mixed fishery makes more enjoyable.

My uncle and cousin Fred Freddie decided to move up ahead a couple of streams. The clouds began to darken and had a hole that had to prove. Dad and I stayed a little longer in the brook fishing. After a few bites, we decided to move to the next cove. We just started to drive on the road, the clouds decided to let loose. It rained. It rained hard. In fact, it seemed that we were approaching our destination, the harder it rained. When we reached our current, we look at another, as if the other ventured out of the first truck.

It poured. Further to the rain, we stared through the window of the van in the creek running down the road. It was not long before the decision was made that would not stop raining. My dad said he would return home as soon as Fred and Freddie approached them. I said that I agree, although a little disappointed that the rain does not break enough for fish to hear the latest.

After a couple of minutes, I had enough of this by observing the flow of water in the creek and the passenger window of our yellow Chevy Luv. "I just know there are fish waiting to be caught," I said. My dad said with a smile, you can always go and try. I assured him it was not so desperate or stupid. No shelter from the rain, not standing in a solid downpour. However, I had an idea. I lowered the window and got my seven foot poles outside the truck cab. Dad was changing as fast as he could to avoid being beaten over the head with the butt of my stick. It should be obvious at this point that I I was really desperate.

After several attempts, I took a crawler in the water. "Get ready for some fish," he said. Seconds later was fish! Well, I took Dad rolling down my window and pulling the rod through the truck cab to the Rainbow in all the time laughing and laughed. He was one of the best fishing trips I can remember. One of the best because of the good dad and I laugh together. And because of the valuable lesson I learned. Fish simply do not care.
