Is it the TV or remote control?

I have an older model JVC TV AV27BX4. From nowhere, a couple of buttons on the remote control started doing something completely different then what to do. The other buttons function normally. My question is: Are the buttons on the remote or a sensor malfunction buttons on the television are access to the problem? In other words, remote control or TV? Please someone with professional expertise to answer this. The IR receiver is just an amplifier infrared so you can not convert the signal … only amplified.
