What comes to mind when you think about Japan? Majestic Mount Fuji? The bullet train? The megalopolis Tokyo? There is more to the land of the rising sun that the tourist famous attractions. Whether for medicinal purposes or for relaxation, millions of people annually visit onsens-Japan hot springs. During a recent year, an estimated 140 million people found a hot spring inn or hotel in Japan. But what makes these spas so popular?

Onsen story

The Japanese have enjoyed bathing in geothermal waters for many centuries. Writings dating from the eighth century AD mention the use of thermal waters. Obviously, the 16-century feudal lord Takeda defended the medicinal value of mineral Springs. After each battle, he and his Samurai Warriors bathed in the springs for help heal sword wounds, broken bones, cuts and bruises. The waters are also useful to relieve stress and to prepare men for the next battle.

Of course, the toilet is place the samurai in a vulnerable position than to be disarmed in the event of a surprise attack. To overcome this problem, Takeda Shingen made use of a group of remote and isolated springs, which later became known as the hidden bathrooms Shingen. Japan springs come in a variety of styles, sizes, shapes and colors. In an effort to classify the therapeutic value of the springs, the Japanese Agency of Environment has organized into nine categories of chemicals. The names given to the hot springs often refer to their features. For example, rich sources of iron can make your turn reddish orange towel. Hence, the word "red" is embodied in their names. Springs with saline containing salt baths are called. What about taking a bath in a bathroom Eel? Of course, this may not sound appealing. But do not worry. The eels are not really into these docks. The name was chosen because when people come out of these springs, your skin feels as slimy like an eel, a consequence of the alkalinity of the water.

In the midst of beautiful scenery

Soaking in hot springs in the midst of beautiful scenery such as mountains, valleys, rivers, coastal and plains makes for a unique experience and leaves a pleasant impression that will not be easy forgotten. Because many of the hot springs in Japan are outdoors, the swimmers have a clear vision of natural beauty. The roof top is the deep blue sky, while the surrounding mountains serve as walls. The sounds from the room of this "open air" may be a chorus of birdsong in morning or the melody of a gently flowing stream. Indeed, seemingly endless appeal to the characteristics of thermal waters.

Do you swim under a cascade of interest you? This experience can be yours. The cascading waters give you a massage and add another dimension of Japanese-style bath. It is also possible bathing in a cave, where hot mineral spring water from deep rock formations. The springs are located on the beach with a perfect view of the making the sun, while others are located along rivers.
